Reliance Foundation Chairperson Nita Ambani has unveiled ‘Dashavatar,’ an extraordinary audio-visual presentation that brings to life the ten incarnations of Bhagwan Shri Vishnu. This spectacular event, held at the Nita Mukesh Ambani Cultural Centre (NMACC), was a highlight of the wedding celebrations for Anant and Radhika Ambani. In Hinduism, Lord Vishnu is revered as the preserver and protector of the universe. According to tradition, Vishnu takes on different forms, or avatars, to restore cosmic balance and protect righteousness (dharma). These ten incarnations, collectively known as the Dashavatar, range from animal forms to human manifestations, each with a unique purpose and story.
The first avatar, Matsya, the fish, is believed to have saved sacred texts from a great flood. The second, Kurma, the tortoise, supported the mountain used to churn the ocean for nectar. The third avatar, Varaha, the boar, rescued the earth from the demon Hiranyaksha. Narasimha, the man-lion, the fourth avatar, destroyed the demon Hiranyakashipu to protect his devotee Prahlada.
The fifth avatar, Vamana, the dwarf, subdued the demon king Bali with his humility and wisdom. Parashurama, the warrior with an axe, the sixth avatar, rid the world of corrupt kings. Rama, the ideal king, and hero of the epic Ramayana, represents the seventh avatar, known for his virtues and heroic deeds. Krishna, the eighth avatar, is a central figure in the Mahabharata and the Bhagavad Gita, revered for his teachings and divine playfulness. The ninth avatar, Buddha, is considered by some traditions to be an incarnation that preached non-violence and compassion. The tenth avatar, Kalki, is yet to appear and is prophesied to bring an end to the current age of darkness and corruption.
